Ten Years on Oman’s Green Mountain, Anantara Marks Its Milestone with a Canyon-Edge Escape

The Jabal Al Akhdar resort pairs a two-night anniversary stay with village walks, local food traditions and high-altitude adventures.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar celebrates its tenth anniversary with a two-night cliff-pool-villa escape in Oman’s Hajar Mountains.
  • Anniversary guests receive dinners for two, spa treatments, sunset drinks at Diana’s Point and a guided Three Villages Walk.
  • The resort highlights rose harvesting, terraced agriculture, falaj irrigation, mountain cooking and via ferrata climbing among its signature experiences.
  • Early check-in, late check-out and villa upgrades depend on availability.

From the edge of a steep Omani canyon, the story of Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort is as much about the villages and farms surrounding it as the views from its terraces. Marking ten years in the Hajar Mountains, the luxury property has introduced a special two-night anniversary stay that connects its signature hospitality with the landscapes and traditions of the Green Mountain.

Set roughly 2,000 metres above sea level, the resort is highlighting ten experiences associated with its first decade, ranging from seasonal rose harvesting and walking routes through historic settlements to climbing activities, regional cooking and sunset views. The anniversary package, called 10 Years Above Ordinary, combines several of those pursuits with accommodation in a One Bedroom Cliff Pool Villa.

Beyond the canyon views

The mountain’s agricultural calendar shapes much of the visitor experience. During the March-to-May rose season, farmers gather Damask rose petals in the cooler morning hours before processing them into rose water, a long-established local product. The resort links that tradition with spa encounters intended to introduce travellers to its cultural significance.

Terraced farms in the region also produce pomegranates, peaches, walnuts, pears, tomatoes and grapes. Their harvests provide a connection between village agriculture and the food offered at the resort. Water continues to move through historic falaj irrigation channels serving local farmland; Anantara says it also reuses treated water for landscaping and irrigation at the property.

Travellers interested in everyday mountain life can take the guided Three Villages Walk through Al Aqr, Al Ayn and Ash Shirayjah, following old paths between homes, terraces and water channels. The resort’s Mountain Insiders interpret the local setting and customs, complementing Omani hospitality rituals such as sharing coffee and dates.

For a different perspective, the resort’s Diana’s Point overlooks the canyon and recalls the 1986 visit of Diana, Princess of Wales, to Al Jabal Al Akhdar. More adventurous guests can tackle the Extreme Jabal Activity Wall, including a via ferrata route and a bridge suspended above the gorge. The resort describes canyon depths of up to 1,000 metres and summer temperatures that can be as much as 15°C cooler than regional capitals, although conditions vary by season.

Cooking and mountain culture

Food is another way the property links guests to its surroundings. Its Spice Spoons culinary experience explores Omani ingredients and traditional recipes, while resort restaurants incorporate produce associated with the highlands. The combination of cooking, village visits and seasonal farming offers travellers more than a viewpoint-focused mountain stay.

“Over the past decade, our guests have discovered that Al Jabal Al Akhdar presents much more than a spectacular setting,” said Abdullatif Al Farsi, General Manager of Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort. He pointed to rose harvesting, irrigation systems and longstanding village traditions as defining elements of the anniversary.

What the anniversary escape includes

The newly promoted escape provides two nights in a One Bedroom Cliff Pool Villa, anniversary welcome amenities and a commemorative gift. Dining benefits include a signature three-course dinner for two each day at Bella Vista, while wellness benefits cover a 60-minute Anantara Spa Signature Massage for two.

Other inclusions are a sunset drink for each guest at Diana’s Point, a complimentary guided Three Villages Walk and ten pieces of laundry per stay. Early check-in, late check-out and a move to the next villa category are subject to availability. The official offer page lists additional terms and charges and provides current booking details.

The anniversary adds another reason to consider Oman’s mountainous interior as an alternative to its better-known coastal and desert itineraries. The resort’s official website places the property about two hours inland from Muscat and describes a collection of 82 canyon-view rooms and 33 private-pool villas.

Anantara Hotels & Resorts is part of Minor Hotels, whose portfolio spans hotel brands in multiple international markets. For enquiries about the anniversary escape, guests can contact the property on +968 2521 8000 or at [email protected].
