MCKINNEY, Texas — A playful local tradition that turned front yards into seasonal landmarks is returning to North Texas, with Visit McKinney preparing to relaunch its Inflatable Turkey Map on Nov. 1 and challenging residents to make the 2026 edition even larger than last year’s.
The initiative invites households across McKinney to register their inflatable turkey displays on the McKinney TX! App, giving each one a creative name and a short backstory. Once the map goes live, families and visitors can use it as a self-guided hunt through the city, transforming everyday drives and neighborhood strolls into a festive way to explore different parts of McKinney during the run-up to Thanksgiving.
The tourism group said the 2025 map featured more than 400 inflatable turkeys, and the aim for this year is to top that number. Returning participants can update their listings through the lookup tool on Visit McKinney’s Inflatable Turkey page, while first-time participants can add a new display through the same portal.
New elements are also being added to expand the event beyond the digital map. Beginning Nov. 2, a 25-foot inflatable turkey and monument sign will be installed at Mitchell Park as a dedicated photo opportunity for residents and visitors following the trail. From Nov. 3, households that register an inflatable turkey within McKinney city limits can also collect one Inflatable Turkey Club magnet per family from Visit McKinney’s office at 200 W. Virginia Street, while supplies last.
For the city’s tourism team, the activity doubles as both a community tradition and a destination-driven outing, encouraging people to discover McKinney block by block. Additional details, registration access and subscription options for updates are available through Visit McKinney and its dedicated Inflatable Turkey Map information page.
