Hilton Honors Adds App-Based Pay with Points at Checkout, Starting at 150 U.S. Hotels

Silver-tier and higher members can apply loyalty points toward eligible hotel charges, with Hilton planning a wider U.S. and Canada rollout by early 2027.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Hilton Honors Pay with Points launched at 150 participating U.S. hotels on October 21, 2026.
  • Members with Silver, Gold, Diamond or Diamond Reserve status can redeem points for eligible charges during app-based digital checkout.
  • Hilton aims to expand to more than 800 hotels by the end of 2026 and more than 6000 U.S. and Canadian properties in early 2027.
  • Eligible charges and redemption options vary by participating property.

McLEAN, Virginia — Checking out of a hotel is becoming another opportunity to spend loyalty rewards rather than pay the entire bill in cash. Hilton has introduced Pay with Points, a feature allowing eligible Hilton Honors members to apply accumulated points to certain charges on their hotel bill from the brand’s mobile app, without stopping at reception.

The new option launched on October 21, 2026, at 150 participating hotels in the United States. It is currently restricted to Hilton Honors members holding Silver, Gold, Diamond or Diamond Reserve status. Hilton expects to expand participation to more than 800 U.S. hotels before the end of 2026, then to more than 6,000 participating properties across the United States and Canada in early 2027. These are planned expansion milestones rather than guarantees of availability at any particular hotel.

How the new checkout redemption works

During Digital Check Out in the Hilton Honors app, qualifying guests can view their hotel folio, review the redemption choices offered for their stay and apply points toward eligible charges. The process can be completed on a mobile device while still at the property or after departing, without asking front-desk staff to process a redemption.

This is a different use of points from redeeming them in advance for a reward-night booking or using a combination of money and points to reserve a room. It extends the choice to selected charges appearing on a guest’s bill at checkout. Hilton has not presented the capability as covering every charge or being available at every hotel; the types of expenses that qualify and available redemption choices may differ by property.

For travelers, the distinction matters because the convenience of an app-based redemption does not necessarily establish its value relative to saving points for a future stay. Members can compare the points requested with the cash cost of an eligible charge before deciding how to settle their folio.

A phased rollout shaped by guest demand

Hilton says the development responds to feedback from its loyalty community. In a company survey, 70% of members questioned expressed interest in using points for purchases at hotels, while roughly half indicated that such a benefit might make them more inclined to book or stay with Hilton. The figures describe Hilton’s surveyed members, not travelers generally.

Brad Anderson, vice president of the Hilton Honors Program, said the new feature is intended to offer members more control over how they use the rewards they have earned. It joins Hilton’s existing digital services, which include room selection, mobile check-in, Digital Key and mobile checkout.

Hilton characterizes the fully app-based checkout process as a first among major hotel brands. While points-based settlement options exist elsewhere in the hospitality industry, the company emphasizes that this version does not require a front-desk interaction. The claim is Hilton’s characterization of the market.

Whether the feature becomes a routine part of guests’ stays will depend on how widely participating properties adopt it and which charges can be paid with points. For now, it remains a limited U.S. launch, with wider North American availability on the company’s 2027 roadmap.
