The Raa Atoll retreat is updating its beach and overwater villas while adding a chef’s table, island bar, pickleball and expanded experiences for younger guests.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives plans to introduce resort enhancements in Q4 2026.
  • Beach and overwater villas are set for refreshed interiors, with expanded kids’ and teen facilities.

Holidaymakers looking for more than an overwater villa at The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives will find a wider range of dining, recreation and wellness experiences on the horizon. The resort, part of Hyatt’s lifestyle portfolio, has outlined a programme of upgrades planned to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, including redesigned villa interiors, new places to eat and drink, and expanded facilities for families.

Located on Huruvalhi Island in the Maldives’ Raa Atoll, the resort combines beach and overwater accommodation with access to a lagoon and house reef. Its official resort website describes a setting that caters to couples, groups of friends and families. The new investment is intended to broaden that appeal without changing the property’s design-led, informal identity.

Villa upgrades and more for younger guests

Both the beach villas and the overwater villas are scheduled to receive brighter, contemporary interiors. The resort says the redesign will retain The Standard’s playful visual character while strengthening the connection between the accommodation and the surrounding sea and tropical scenery. It has not announced a villa closure schedule or a specific completion date for each accommodation category.

For families, the expansion centres on the existing Lil’ Shark Kids Club, alongside improvements to the Art Hut and the introduction of an Outdoor Adventure Zone. A new Teen Lounge game room is also planned, providing a separate social and recreational space for older children. The additions aim to give families more flexibility between shared island activities and age-specific programming.

An overwater spa built around contrasting experiences

Wellness is another focus of the resort’s plans. The Standard Spa is being developed around a sequence of hydrotherapy, steam, infrared sauna, cold plunge and infinity-pool experiences. Rather than presenting the facilities as isolated treatments, the resort intends to offer a connected programme that guests can adapt to their preferences.

Three proposed wellness journeys — Healing & Relaxation, Recovery & Reset, and Movement & Balance — will help guests choose between rest, recovery and more active sessions. Sunrise yoga and ocean-facing treatments are among the ways the property describes its approach to wellness, with the spa positioned as an overwater setting for both guided activities and unstructured downtime.

Chef’s table, a new island bar and a beachfront grill

The dining changes include an intimate Chef’s Table experience featuring curated menus, seasonal ingredients and direct interaction with chefs. On the resort’s separate Baby Island, the planned Castaway Bar will offer drinks and light food in a relaxed lagoon-side setting designed around sunset gatherings.

Meanwhile, the existing BBQ Shak is due to be reintroduced as The Beach Grill. According to the announcement, grilled dishes and seafood will remain central to the venue, but with a revised beachfront dining concept. Specific menus, opening dates and prices for these new and updated venues have not yet been provided.

Pickleball joins the island’s sports offering

The resort also plans to open its first pickleball court, complementing an existing tennis court. The addition is intended to accommodate both experienced players and guests trying the racket sport for the first time, making it a further option alongside swimming, watersports and other outdoor activities.

Amar Lalvani, President and Creative Director of Hyatt Lifestyle Group, characterised the upgrades as a way to develop the property’s guest experience while preserving The Standard’s distinctive social character. He cited refreshed villas, family activities and wellness as key components of the next phase.

The resort has identified Q4 2026 as its target launch period for the enhancements, although no individual opening dates have been specified. Guests considering a stay during the transition should confirm which facilities are operating before making arrangements. Details of accommodation and available packages can be found through The Standard Maldives offers page, with broader destination information available from Visit Maldives.
