- Lufthansa Group announced ten new intercontinental connections and additional frequencies for summer 2027, bookable from 20 October 2026.
- Lufthansa plans Frankfurt–Columbus flights from 5 May and Munich–Phoenix flights from 3 August 2027, each three times weekly.

Travellers planning trips for summer 2027 will have a broader selection of routes across the Lufthansa Group network, as the European airline group rolls out what it describes as its most extensive schedule expansion since 2020. Announced on 20 October 2026, the programme encompasses ten new intercontinental connections, new European services and additional frequencies across Lufthansa, Discover Airlines, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss and ITA Airways. The group said the summer programme became bookable on 20 October.
The strongest changes reach beyond the group’s established European hubs. The United States gains nonstop links to Columbus, Ohio, and Phoenix, Arizona, while Canada gains a Frankfurt–Edmonton route. Italy and Venezuela will be connected by a new Rome–Caracas service, and travellers heading to Japan will have additional options from Frankfurt to Tokyo-Narita and Nagoya. The individual schedules matter both for point-to-point passengers and for travellers making connections across the airline group’s networks.
Columbus and Phoenix join Lufthansa’s transatlantic map
Lufthansa plans to introduce a Frankfurt–Columbus service on 5 May 2027, operating Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with a Boeing 787-9 featuring its Allegris cabin. The group says it will be the only European carrier offering a nonstop flight to the Ohio capital. From Munich, the airline is scheduled to add Phoenix on 3 August 2027, with Airbus A350-900 flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Both routes widen the choice of U.S. gateways accessible directly from Lufthansa’s German hubs.
Japan is another priority. A daily Frankfurt–Tokyo-Narita service is scheduled to start on 28 March 2027, complementing Lufthansa’s existing Tokyo-Haneda flights from Frankfurt and Munich. Frankfurt–Nagoya is due to return seasonally from 29 March with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Frankfurt will also see additional services to Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Hyderabad, Chennai and Montreal, while the Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur route entering the timetable in October 2026 is planned to operate daily in summer 2027. The airline also plans daily Frankfurt–Dubrovnik flights.
From Munich, Lufthansa will add a second seasonal Delhi service from 28 March and increase frequencies to Bangalore, Chicago, São Paulo and Singapore. Its wider Asia expansion reflects a mix of new routes and greater frequency on established services rather than exclusively new destinations.
Edmonton and Caracas feature in a wider Americas expansion
Discover Airlines will begin its first nonstop Frankfurt–Edmonton service on 1 June 2027, scheduled three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Edmonton becomes Discover’s third Canadian destination alongside Calgary and Halifax, adding a direct gateway between Germany and Alberta. Discover also plans to station a third Airbus A330-300 at Munich and increase Munich–Windhoek service to five weekly flights through two additional departures.
ITA Airways is planning a Rome Fiumicino–Caracas route from 30 March 2027, with three weekly Airbus A330-900 services on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The airline will also add a Rome–Verona connection from 28 March, supporting domestic journeys and onward connections through the Italian capital.
SWISS, Austrian and Brussels Airlines expand their reach
SWISS will keep its five-times-weekly Zurich–Bengaluru connection in the summer programme. Its Tokyo-Narita flights are planned daily in the early summer period through May and again in October; from June to September the schedule increases from five to six weekly flights compared with the preceding summer. Zurich–Toulouse is another addition, with twice-weekly flights from 25 June to 23 August. SWISS also plans added European frequencies including Budapest, Hamburg, Paris, Nice, Bremen and Niš.
Austrian Airlines will extend its Mauritius and Malé services into late April 2027, resume Tokyo-Narita and Shanghai at the beginning of the summer schedule and operate Tokyo daily from May through October. Shanghai is scheduled five times weekly and Bangkok daily. The airline’s transatlantic summer programme includes New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Montreal and, from late April, Los Angeles. A Vienna–Beirut service is planned between June and September. Austrian also expects a larger Greek leisure network, alongside destinations in Spain, Italy and France.
Brussels Airlines will introduce Cairo with five weekly services, add Evenes in northern Norway to its summer European map and expand its Kilimanjaro operation to three weekly services. More flights are also planned to Porto, Heraklion, Zakynthos and Funchal.
Edelweiss broadens seasonal leisure flying
Edelweiss intends to bring forward its seasonal Windhoek service to 16 March, increasing it to three weekly flights from July. Its Kilimanjaro/Zanzibar operation is planned at four flights a week, while Punta Cana may see as many as four weekly services. Malé and Tampa Bay are scheduled to receive up to five flights weekly each.
The expansion spans city-break, long-haul business and holiday destinations. For travellers, the main benefit is a wider range of direct services and connecting options; the practical choice will still depend on operating dates, frequencies and seat availability on each route. Eurowings is expected to publish its summer 2027 timetable separately.
