Signia Hilton Savannah Tops Out as 444-Room Convention Hotel Targets 2028 Opening

A nearly 200-foot hotel tower reaches its structural peak, moving Savannah closer to a connected convention campus with expanded meetings, dining and accommodation facilities.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The 444-room Signia Hilton Savannah hotel has reached its structural topping-out stage and is expected to open in 2028.
  • The nearly 200-foot hotel will connect directly to the expanded Savannah Convention Center.
  • Plans include more than 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a 13,000-square-foot ballroom and five food and beverage venues.
  • Construction has involved more than 1,200 individual workers, according to project partners.

Savannah’s expanding riverfront meetings district has reached another construction milestone, with the 444-room Signia Hilton Savannah hotel completing the highest structural stage of its nearly 200-foot tower. The property is being developed as the headquarters hotel for the Savannah Convention Center, with an opening anticipated in 2028.

The topping-out ceremony brought together representatives of the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority, Hilton, construction contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, co-developer Songy Highroads and local officials. Participants signed a structural beam to mark progress on the hotel, which is designed to connect directly to the convention center. The project remains under construction; topping out marks the placement of its highest structural beam rather than completion of the building.

For meeting planners, the link between guest rooms and event facilities is a central element of the scheme. The new hotel is expected to add more than 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a 13,000-square-foot ballroom, while providing accommodation next to the expanded convention center. The wider development is intended to make it easier for Savannah to pursue larger conventions and multi-day events that require a concentration of guest rooms and meeting capacity.

Construction advances on the riverfront

Project partners reported that more than 1,200 workers have contributed to the construction, with over 300 on site each day. Work to date has included more than 27,000 cubic yards of poured concrete, 2,700 tons of reinforcing steel and 1,135 auger piles forming more than 81,000 linear feet of deep foundations.

Kelvin Moore, general manager and senior vice president of the Savannah Convention Center, described the hotel as a further step toward a more integrated convention campus. The development follows the convention center’s expansion, which the convention center outlined when hotel construction began in 2025.

Rooms, restaurants and new meeting facilities

Current plans call for five food and beverage venues, an outdoor pool and Club Signia alongside the hotel’s guest rooms and event facilities. The culinary programme is being developed with Savannah hospitality business Grey Spaces, led by chef Mashama Bailey and restaurateur Johno Morisano. These elements are intended to make the property relevant not only to convention delegates but also to other travellers spending time on Savannah’s riverfront.

The hotel is owned by the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority and is being developed in partnership with the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Hilton will manage the property, while Songy Highroads and Matthews Southwest Hospitality are co-developers. The project will be the second Signia Hilton property in Georgia, following the opening of the Atlanta hotel in 2024.

For now, the construction milestone signals progress rather than an imminent opening. Travellers and organisers can consult Visit Savannah’s property overview and Hilton’s Georgia hotel listings for further information as the planned 2028 debut approaches.
