Silversea has opened its 2026–27 Antarctic expedition season with a programme of 40 voyages aboard three ships, adding a new hotel stay in southern Chile to its fly-cruise journeys. The first departures have taken Silver Endeavour from King George Island and Silver Wind from Puerto Williams, while Silver Cloud will also operate in the region through March 2027.
The season spans voyages of six to 21 nights and offers two distinct ways of reaching the Antarctic Peninsula: flying across the Drake Passage on a charter aircraft or making the crossing by expedition ship. Beyond the Peninsula, selected itineraries extend to South Georgia, the Falkland Islands and waters south of the Antarctic Circle.
A hotel stay becomes part of the Fly Cruise journey
A significant change for the season is the inclusion of The Cormorant at 55 South, the cruise line’s new hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, in all 29 Antarctica Fly Cruise itineraries. Silversea says the property will welcome early guests ahead of its official grand opening on 5 November 2026. The stay forms part of an approach designed to link air access, onshore hospitality and expeditions more closely.
Guests on these journeys will travel between Santiago and Puerto Williams on Silversea-branded charter flights. The company says this is the only nonstop air connection between the Chilean capital and Puerto Williams. At the hotel, its expedition specialists will lead or support activities such as Beagle Channel kayaking, naturalist-guided walks on Navarino Island and horseback excursions with local wilderness guides. The Latitude 55 restaurant will feature Patagonian-inspired family-style meals, while Bar Sur will serve regional beverages.
Of the 29 Fly Cruise sailings, 14 will be operated by Silver Endeavour with flights across the Drake Passage in both directions. Another 15 departures aboard Silver Wind, Silver Cloud and Silver Endeavour will combine a one-way flight with a sea crossing. According to Silversea, charter air travel, expedition activities and Zodiac excursions are included in every sailing.
Extended expeditions to South Georgia and the Falklands
For travellers seeking a longer passage by sea, 11 roundtrip voyages from Puerto Williams will cross the Drake Passage in both directions. One 18-night Silver Wind itinerary departing 7 November will travel through the Falkland Islands, including West Point Island, Saunders Island and Port Stanley, before continuing towards South Georgia, Elephant Island and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Silver Cloud is scheduled to operate four 15-night itineraries that combine South Georgia, Elephant Island and the Peninsula, starting 9 November. A separate 12-night departure on 9 December will include a day south of the Antarctic Circle. Holiday-season travellers can choose a 15-night Silver Wind sailing departing Puerto Williams on 22 December, focused on the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia.
The longest itinerary is a 21-night Silver Endeavour voyage departing 4 March 2027. It will take travellers from Puerto Williams to Antarctica and South Georgia before visiting several Falkland Islands locations and Puerto Madryn, Argentina, concluding in Buenos Aires. It is the programme’s only itinerary scheduled to finish in the Argentine capital.
More flexibility in how travellers reach Antarctica
Silversea president Bert Hernandez described the range of sea crossings and flight options as a way for guests to choose between a longer expedition through the South Atlantic and a shorter journey that bypasses the Drake Passage by air. The new Puerto Williams hotel is intended to provide a more coordinated starting point for the latter.
The programme also illustrates the growing role of dedicated onshore infrastructure in expedition cruising. Rather than relying only on shipboard accommodation and transit arrangements, Silversea is bringing the pre-cruise stay, regional experiences and charter transport into its Antarctica offering. The hotel was previously announced as a gateway to the continent; the current season marks its entry into the cruise line’s scheduled travel programme.
