London City Airport has revealed the name of its first passenger lounge, bringing a new pre-flight option to the airport as it prepares to mark four decades of aviation in 2027. The planned 09:LDN Suite, developed with Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality, is expected to open in early 2027 and will be available to passengers regardless of the airline they are flying.
The announcement gives a more definite identity to a project intended to add dedicated lounge space at an airport known for its compact terminal and quick journeys through departure procedures. Aspire, the airport hospitality business of Swissport International, has also appointed Thomas Ralls as general manager to oversee preparations for launch.
A name rooted in London City Airport’s runway
The new name takes its number from the airport’s Runway 09, a designation associated with its approximate 090-degree compass orientation. Its visual identity incorporates a line across the zero, intended to reference both the runway and the Greenwich Meridian. The word “Suite” signals the type of hospitality environment Aspire plans to create.
According to the announcement, the design and guest experience will draw on London’s art, food, culture and hospitality. The airport’s location in the Royal Docks provides a geographical connection to East London, while the 2027 launch is timed to coincide with London City Airport’s 40th year.
Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London City Airport, said the name reflects the airport’s runway, East London setting and links with the wider capital. He described the lounge as an addition to the airport’s existing premium passenger proposition.
New general manager to shape the opening
Ralls joins after hospitality management and operations roles in London restaurants and private members’ clubs, including Soho House’s Little House Balham. His responsibilities at 09:LDN Suite will include compliance and licensing, supplier and stakeholder relationships, recruiting and training staff, and establishing the service approach before opening.
David Collyer, Global Senior Vice President of Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality, said Ralls’s experience fits the operator’s plans for the new lounge. Ralls, in turn, said the concept would draw on service practices from restaurants, hotels and private members’ clubs alongside Aspire’s airport lounge experience.
The planned space will not be tied to a particular carrier. Aspire says passengers will be able to buy access online or on arrival, with an annual membership option envisaged at a later stage. The announcement did not provide an exact opening date, admission prices or detailed booking arrangements, so those details remain to be confirmed.
Another change for the airport’s passenger offer
The lounge forms part of the airport’s preparations for its next phase of operations. In its announcement, London City Airport also pointed to developments in its route network and an ongoing airspace change process related to the potential use of newer aircraft types. That process remains subject to approval and is separate from the lounge project.
More information about the airport and its passenger services is available from the official London City Airport website. Details of Aspire’s wider lounge network can be found at Aspire Lounges. Travellers considering access to 09:LDN Suite should look for confirmed pricing and opening information closer to its planned 2027 debut.
