Airbnb is entering American Express Travel for the first time under a new partnership that gives eligible US Card Members a new way to search, book and earn rewards on stays through Amex Travel.
According to details released by Airbnb, the new arrangement allows eligible American Express customers in the United States to browse more than one million Airbnb listings on AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel App before completing their reservation through Airbnb. Once booked, travellers will still manage their stay directly on Airbnb, including host communication, co-traveller changes, cancellations and support.
The partnership is designed to give travellers more value from trips they are already planning while broadening the accommodation choices available through Amex Travel. It also brings Airbnb’s inventory into a channel more commonly associated with hotels, flights and other traditional travel products.
Rewards and Luxe benefits
Eligible US Card Members enrolled in Membership Rewards can earn points on prepaid Airbnb bookings made through Amex Travel. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members will earn 5X Membership Rewards points, Consumer Classic Green Card Members will continue to earn 3X Membership Rewards points on travel, including bookings made directly with Airbnb, and other eligible Card Members will earn 2X Membership Rewards points.
For higher-end stays, the partnership also extends additional value to eligible Platinum Card Members. Prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of at least two nights booked through Amex Travel are now eligible for the annual $600 Lodging Credit, issued as up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually. Card Members who complete a qualifying Airbnb Luxe booking can also unlock access to a new annual $250 statement credit on eligible Airbnb Experiences purchases made directly with Airbnb during the remainder of that calendar year.
Juan David Borrero, Head of Partnerships at Airbnb, said the collaboration is intended to give American Express Card Members more choice and flexibility, while Howard Grosfield, Group President of US Consumer Services at American Express, said the deal expands lodging choice while preserving the rewards and service associated with the brand.
The launch reflects a wider push across the travel industry to make loyalty benefits more relevant across a broader mix of accommodation types. By integrating home rentals and Luxe properties into Amex Travel’s search and booking flow, the two companies are aiming to capture travellers who want both non-hotel options and more rewarding ways to pay for them.
