Introducing a new way to book stays and unlock benefits through American Express Travel

Airbnb

Airbnb and American Express are partnering to offer Airbnb guests who are also eligible US Card Members more benefits for eligible stays with Airbnb. For the first time, guests will be able to browse more than one million Airbnb listings on AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel App™.

Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members can now earn the annual $600 Lodging Credit (up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually), previously known as the $600 Hotel Credit, when they book an eligible Airbnb Luxe home for two nights or more. They can also unlock access to a new annual $250 statement credit on eligible Airbnb Experiences purchases after making a qualifying Airbnb Luxe booking, giving them another way to make the most of their trip—whether that’s horseback riding through spectacular views of Malibu’s rolling hills, taking a gastronomic cruise across the Seine River, or exploring ancient canals and chinampas in Xochimilco.

Travelers are looking to get more from every trip—from where they stay to what they do while they’re there—and they want their travel spending to go further, with rewards that give them even more reasons to keep exploring. In fact, more than 75 percent of respondents from a recent survey said they get more satisfaction from travel purchases when those purchases earn rewards that they can use toward future travel, while nearly four in five respondents said being able to earn travel rewards could help prompt them to book a trip.1 This partnership helps make that possible, giving guests traveling with Airbnb and American Express additional benefits on trips they’re already planning.

“Guests come to Airbnb for the variety—a loft for a solo trip, a house for a reunion, a Luxe villa for a milestone trip, and the experiences that fill the days in between,” said Juan David Borrero, Head of Partnerships at Airbnb. “We’re excited to bring more choice and flexibility to American Express Card Members with this exclusive partnership. Both of our companies exist to help people travel more and better, and this partnership helps people see more of the world by making travel even more rewarding.”

How it works

US American Express Card Members can begin their search by entering their trip details on the dedicated Homes tab at AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel App™. From there, they’ll enter Airbnb’s familiar search experience to browse a selection of more than one million homes, from family homes and locations for corporate retreats to extraordinary Airbnb Luxe properties, using filters like amenities, property type, Guest Favorites, and more.

When they’re ready to book, guests will be prompted to connect their American Express and Airbnb accounts and complete their reservation through Airbnb. After booking, Card Members can view their trip on Amex Travel but must manage their stay, including messaging their host, adding co-travelers, canceling the booking or making other changes, and getting support on Airbnb.

Eligible US Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program can earn Membership Rewards points for prepaid bookings with Airbnb made through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App™ on their eligible American Express Card:

  • Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members will earn 5X Membership Rewards points
  • Consumer Classic Green Card Members will continue to earn 3X Membership Rewards points on travel, including bookings made directly with Airbnb
  • All other eligible Card Members will earn 2X Membership Rewards points

US Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members who book Airbnb Luxe stays with Airbnb online through Amex Travel can access additional benefits:

  • $600 Lodging Credit (previously named the $600 Hotel Credit): Prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings of two nights or more are eligible for the annual $600 Lodging Credit—up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually—expanding the properties that qualify for the benefit beyond eligible prepaid hotel bookings.
  • New $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit: Each year, Platinum Card Members can unlock access to the $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit benefit after they use their Card to book a prepaid Airbnb Luxe stay with Airbnb through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App™. Once the booking is confirmed, Card Members can get up to $250 in statement credits through the remainder of that calendar year after they use their Card to purchase eligible Airbnb Experiences2 directly with Airbnb.

“Travel is personal and where our Card Members choose to stay is personal,” said Howard Grosfield, Group President, US Consumer Services at American Express. “By partnering with Airbnb, we’re giving Card Members more choice while delivering the rewards, service, and exceptional value that define American Express Membership.”

US American Express Card Members can start earning rewards on eligible Airbnb stays today by visiting AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App™, then following the prompts to connect their American Express and Airbnb accounts.
