Advito Launches New Service to Help Companies Prepare Business Travel Emissions for Audit

The pre-audit service assesses data collection, emissions calculations, and supporting evidence to help organizations strengthen audit readiness and mitigate business risk.

Advito, the leading global business travel consultancy, today announced a new service designed to help organizations prepare their Scope 3 business travel emissions data and processes for auditing across any calculation methodology.

Business travel can present a particular challenge because information is frequently fragmented across travel management companies, expense systems, and other data sources. For some large professional services companies, mobility represents between 30-80% of their Scope 3 emissions. New regulations are emerging, audits are becoming more demanding, and global companies have to contend with different laws and requirements across different markets (e.g., CSRD in Europe, SECR in the UK, and state-specific requirements in the US).

Advito provides an independent assessment of the processes and methodologies organizations use to calculate and report business travel emissions. By identifying gaps before external verification begins, Advito helps reduce client effort and friction during the audit process and may help limit the time required with external auditors.

The review examines data collection processes and quality, calculation methodologies, emissions factors, inconsistencies, missing evidence, and other issues that could create challenges during an audit. Combining specialist knowledge of the business travel ecosystem, data collection, and emissions methodologies with its ISO 14083-certified GATE4 methodology, Advito is uniquely positioned to help global organizations mitigate this significant business risk.

"Travel data is complex, and even organizations with mature sustainability programs can encounter gaps when that data is examined through an auditor's lens," said Julian Etchanchu, Senior Director, Sustainability and Multimodal practices at Advito. "Our goal is to help clients identify issues before the formal audit begins, strengthen the evidence behind their calculations regardless of which methodology they use, and create a clear and concise picture of their business travel emissions."

The service is designed for companies that require carbon verification statements for reporting purposes and covers Scope 3.6 and 3.7 emissions (business travel and commuting, respectively). Advito's pre-audit clients receive a report outlining the consulting firm's findings and recommended actions to take before undergoing a formal external audit.
