Zambia: President Hichilema Calls for Regional Collaboration, Stronger Energy Communication

President Hakainde Hichilema has called for regional collaboration and the exchange of lessons on energy-sector developments to accelerate progress and strengthen investment across the region.

Speaking at the Mines and Investment Insaka in Lusaka today, President Hichilema also stressed the need for Zambia to communicate its energy-sector achievements and reforms more effectively to the international community.

He said the country’s progress was not being adequately showcased. “We are not communicating well enough about our achievements in the energy sector to the outside world. Zambia has had great reforms in the energy sector,” he said.

The remarks come as Zambia continues to expand and diversify its electricity generation capacity, with solar power increasingly complementing hydropower.Having attained its 1,000-megawatt solar generation target in 2026, Government is pursuing the broader Grow Zambia Agenda target of increasing electricity generation capacity to 10,000 megawatts by 2031.

The President’s call highlights the importance of sharing experiences, communicating investment opportunities and showcasing reforms to attract investment and support regional energy development.
