Spotify Memberships Give Podcast Creators a New Way to Connect With Their Biggest Fans

Spotify

Anyone who has a favorite podcast knows fandom goes beyond listening and watching. It’s about the connections fans build with creators and the ways they show their support. At Spotify, we’re always thinking about new ways to deepen those connections and help creators grow sustainable businesses. Starting today, we’re rolling out Memberships in 34 markets, giving eligible creators a new way to offer exclusive content and experiences to their fans on Spotify.

First previewed at Investor Day earlier this year, Memberships give creators the flexibility to shape what they offer, while making it easy for fans to join and access exclusive content from their favorite shows.

How Memberships bring creators and fans together

Every podcast community is different, so we made sure creators can decide what their Membership includes. They can offer exclusive audio or video, bonus episodes, fewer ads, early access, access to a show’s archive—or all of the above. Creators can also package benefits across multiple tiers and pricing options.

For fans, getting started is simple: in supported markets, Free and Premium users can find a show’s Membership offerings on its Spotify show page, join through a streamlined checkout process, and access member content without ever leaving Spotify. Members can also display badges when commenting on episodes, while creators can greet new members with welcome clips.

And because Memberships are built into Spotify, creators can reach potential members where they’re already listening and watching. With tools like targeted promotions, free trials, and analytics that show what’s driving sign-ups, Spotify helps creators turn their existing audiences into paying members. Creators also have access to exportable member data, including contact information from fans who choose to share it, giving them more control over their relationships with fans—on and off Spotify.

Creators launching Memberships on Spotify today include The Adam Friedland Show, Making Sense with Sam Harris, The Shawn Ryan Show, The Sculpt Society, Two Hot Takes, and YMH Studios, which is bringing Memberships to 12 shows across its network, among others. From exclusive episodes, early access, and behind-the-scenes content to special perks for their most dedicated fans, each is putting their own spin on Memberships and creating new ways to connect with their communities.

More ways for creators to earn

Memberships add another way for more creators to build their businesses on Spotify, in addition to advertising, sponsorships, and the Spotify Partner Program. Creators can build a recurring revenue stream directly from their fans while keeping 90% of the revenue they generate.

Designed to make monetization accessible to creators at different stages of growth, Memberships are available to eligible shows hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone with just three published episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 consumption hours on Spotify in the previous 30 days. Eligible creators can get started today through Spotify for Creators or Megaphone.

Initial rollout markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K., and the U.S.
