Oman Air and Finnair codeshare opens new Helsinki and Melbourne connections through Europe and Bangkok

The first new Oman Air codeshare since its oneworld accession links Helsinki through eight European gateways and offers an Australia connection via Thailand.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Oman Air and Finnair announced a new codeshare linking Oman with Helsinki and Melbourne via connecting flights.
  • Finnair-operated Helsinki services from eight European gateways are included in the agreement.
  • Melbourne connectivity is available through Bangkok, which Oman Air serves twice daily.
  • Both oneworld members expect to explore additional cooperation beyond this initial phase.

Passengers travelling between Oman and Finland have gained new connecting options under a codeshare agreement between Oman Air and Finnair, extending the Omani carrier’s reach into Helsinki via several European airports and adding an onward connection to Melbourne through Bangkok. The arrangement is Oman Air’s first newly announced codeshare since it joined the oneworld alliance in June 2025.

In an announcement dated October 18, 2026, Oman Air outlined a network designed around existing flights rather than the launch of nonstop Muscat–Helsinki or Muscat–Australia services. Under the cooperation, travellers can combine Oman Air’s international services with selected Finnair-operated flights, expanding potential itineraries to Finland and Australia.

Helsinki connections through eight European gateways

One connecting option runs through London Heathrow, which Oman Air serves from its Muscat hub 11 times a week. The agreement also covers Finnair-operated flights to Helsinki from Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Milan and Rome. These gateways create additional ways to reach the Finnish capital through a codeshare itinerary, subject to available flights and connections.

The Australian element links travellers to Melbourne through Bangkok. Oman Air says it operates two flights daily to the Thai capital, which provides the connecting point for the expanded itinerary. The partnership does not represent a new nonstop Oman Air service to Melbourne.

Alliance benefits and scope for further cooperation

Both carriers are members of oneworld, meaning eligible frequent flyers can receive the tier recognition and associated services available under the alliance when travelling on qualifying journeys. Travellers should still check the applicable ticket, baggage and lounge-access conditions for their specific flights; Oman Air’s partner information sets out distinctions for services operated by other airlines.

Rohan Patell, Oman Air’s Head of Partnerships and Alliances, described the cooperation as a way to make fuller use of membership in oneworld and broaden passengers’ access to Helsinki and Finnair’s wider network. Fredrik Wildtgrube, Finnair’s Senior Vice President of Alliances and Airlines Partnerships, welcomed the opportunity to carry Oman Air passengers onward to Finland and said the airline looked forward to expanding the relationship.

The two airlines describe the current agreement as an initial phase and are examining opportunities to widen their cooperation. No additional routes or timetable for such an expansion were specified in the announcement.

More travel options into Oman

Beyond outbound connections from Muscat, the arrangement may give Finland-bound and other connecting passengers more opportunities to include Oman in a longer journey. Oman Air is also promoting its Muscat stopover programme as a way for connecting travellers to visit the capital or explore more of the Sultanate.

For travel planning, the distinction is practical: the agreement broadens the range of marketed connecting itineraries across multiple established airports, while the operating airline, connection time and available loyalty benefits remain important details to confirm when booking.
