Mike Maier Joins Qtonic Quantum as Senior Advisor, Financial Services and Enterprise Risk
Mike Maier, a retired financial services executive whose career includes serving as Chief Information Officer of Navient, has joined Qtonic Quantum as Senior Advisor, Financial Services and Enterprise Risk.
The appointment brings more than 25 years of financial services operating experience to Qtonic Quantum’s work helping leaders evaluate cryptographic exposure and plan practical changes.
Maier held operational and executive roles at Navient and its predecessor Sallie Mae, and earlier at MBNA, which became part of Bank of America in 2006. He retired from Navient in 2024. Earlier in his career he served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
For banks and loan servicers, changing cryptography touches customer information, interconnected applications and daily operations. Much of that depends on third parties whose systems and cryptography the institution does not control. Maier’s operating background is relevant to the decisions these institutions face: how to prioritize investment, assign responsibility and sequence changes across systems customers depend on.
“A bank needs to understand what a finding means for its customers, its systems and its next investment decision,” said David Cohen, Co-Founder of Qtonic Quantum. “Mike brings the perspective of a CIO who has worked inside financial services operations. That experience will help us make our technical findings more useful to the executives responsible for acting on them.”
QScout provides cryptographic exposure intelligence and, where the engagement approves it, a cryptographic bill of materials (CBOM). QStrike supports adversarial validation, while QSolve provides human-led migration advisory. Together they connect approved-scope assessment evidence and technical findings to decisions about priorities and implementation.
“The test of any technology investment is whether it helps the organization serve customers reliably and operate safely and soundly,” said Maier. “Post-quantum readiness belongs in that same conversation. I look forward to helping Qtonic Quantum connect its technical capabilities with the financial, operational and risk decisions that institutions will have to make to get post-quantum ready.”
