Ethiopia: Funding gaps threaten vital health services
Humanitarian partners continue to deliver life-saving assistance despite insecurity and access challenges in parts of Ethiopia's north.
OCHA says that across the Tigray region, additional medical, nutrition and other essential supplies have reached communities and health facilities, with more on the way.
In the Amhara region, partners working in food are preparing to provide assistance to approximately 100,000 people in the zones of Wag Hamra and North Wollo. Humanitarian operations also continue across Afar, but limited funding remains a major obstacle.
Humanitarian needs continue to far outpace available resources. In Amhara, for example, only 16 of the 57 Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams needed are currently operating, with 10 of the 16 expected to shut down operations by the end of the month.
In Tigray, partners continue to work with regional authorities to facilitate humanitarian access and expand assistance. Yesterday, the Humanitarian Coordinator Ozonnia Ojielo met with officials from the newly established caretaker interim administration and stressed the need for unhindered humanitarian access.
The UN reiterates its call for all parties to facilitate the expansion of life-saving humanitarian assistance.
