Discover Airlines adds Edmonton and Belize City flights in 2027 as Seattle services shift from Lufthansa

Lufthansa

New nonstop routes from Frankfurt, additional long-haul capacity in Munich and revised Seattle operations broaden the Lufthansa Group leisure network.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Frankfurt–Edmonton nonstop flights are scheduled from 1 June 2027, three times weekly on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Frankfurt–Belize City service is scheduled from 16 December 2027 on Thursdays and Sundays through mid-April 2028.
  • Discover Airlines will take over Lufthansa-operated Seattle services from Frankfurt and Munich in late March 2027; existing bookings are to be updated automatically.
  • An additional Airbus A330-300 is planned for Munich in March 2027, increasing its based fleet to ten aircraft.

Discover Airlines is widening its long-haul network in 2027 with its first nonstop services from Frankfurt to Edmonton in Canada and Belize City in Central America. The Lufthansa Group leisure carrier will also take over flights to Seattle from Frankfurt and Munich that are currently operated by Lufthansa, giving holidaymakers new options across North and Central America.

The Edmonton service is scheduled to launch on 1 June 2027, operating three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. According to the airline’s official announcement (in German), it will be the only nonstop connection between Germany and Edmonton, the capital of Alberta. The route adds to Discover Airlines’ existing Canadian network serving Calgary and Halifax, allowing travellers to plan open-jaw journeys through western Canada, such as arriving in Edmonton and departing from Calgary.

Belize joins the winter network

A second new destination will follow on 16 December 2027, when Discover Airlines plans to introduce flights from Frankfurt to Belize City. The seasonal service will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, until mid-April 2028. The airline describes the link as the first service to Belize by a European airline, giving passengers a nonstop European gateway to the country’s Caribbean coast, offshore islands, protected natural areas and Maya archaeological heritage.

The flights will use Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) near Belize City. Their timing overlaps with Belize’s generally popular dry-season travel period. Unlike the Edmonton route, tickets for Belize are not expected to go on sale until mid-December 2026, so travellers planning the new service will need to wait for sales to open.

Beginning in late March 2027, Discover Airlines is also set to assume the Frankfurt–Seattle and Munich–Seattle services currently operated by Lufthansa, with frequencies of up to daily service on the routes. The airline says passengers with existing bookings do not need to rebook: the operator change will be reflected automatically in reservation systems in the coming weeks.

The Seattle change will help strengthen Munich as Discover Airlines’ second German long-haul base. A further Airbus A330-300 is scheduled to join the Munich operation in March 2027, lifting the aircraft stationed there to ten. The carrier has also previously announced that its Munich–Windhoek service will increase to five departures per week.

For travellers, the developments add another nonstop Canadian entry point, a new direct route to Belize and continuity on the Seattle flights through a different Lufthansa Group airline. Edmonton and Seattle services are already bookable through Discover Airlines, Lufthansa’s sales channels, tour operators and travel agencies. Belize tickets are scheduled to become available in mid-December 2026.

Headquartered in Frankfurt, Discover Airlines is the Lufthansa Group’s leisure airline, launched in 2021 to serve holiday destinations from Frankfurt and Munich. The announced additions underline its expanding role in the group’s long-haul leisure operations, though all future schedules remain subject to operational changes.
