Spotify

When you have time, spend it well—with a podcast you love. That’s the idea behind our new Podcasts on Spotify campaign, celebrating the shows and creators that make a spare moment worth pressing play.

One of the podcasts featured in the campaign is Ride, hosted by besties Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone. Each week, the comedian-actor duo share their witty musings on life, culture, trends, and whatever they’re currently riding for, from boba tea to “that arm vein guys have.” The show is full of recurring bits, highly specific references, and enough lore to reward even the most devoted listeners.

Naturally, we had a few questions of our own, so we asked Benny and Mary Beth to take our Spotify Questionnaire. From the first songs they remember loving to the pop divas in heavy rotation, here’s how the king and queen of Baronies everywhere are listening.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Benny: “Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore” by Tinashe.

Mary Beth: “I Can’t Wait” by Phoebe Bridgers.

What’s the first song you remember loving?

Mary Beth: “Wannabe” by Spice Girls.

Benny: “Lucky” by Britney Spears.

What’s the name of your current playlist?

Mary Beth: It’s the name of my character in the romcom I am making: Emmy.

Benny: OC 2: songs I’m testing for season 2 of [my Prime Video series] Overcompensating—eek!!

Who’s the best artist you’ve discovered recently?

Mary Beth: Ugh, I’m so bad with finding new people cause I listen to the same songs a thousand times. But Olivia Dean came into my life this year and I’m so grateful.

Benny: Sophia Stel and Arlo Parks!!

What album takes you back to a specific place or moment more than any other?

Benny: Oh my God. how i’m feeling now. And probably Norman Fucking Rockwell! I think I’ve listened to that album 10,000 times front to back. Maybe my fave of all time!

Mary Beth: Tove Lo’s BLUE LIPS.

Is there such a thing as a guilty musical pleasure? If so, what’s yours?

Benny: Well, when I was in the closet it was ARTPOP, but now I talk about that album publicly and frequently!

Mary Beth: No, I am proud of listening to girl singers around the clock.

What’s the song you’d want played at your funeral?

Benny: “brand new chanel$” by Slayyyter as the doors open. And also “Track 10” by Charli xcx (I want her to ride in on my casket like in the “Good Ones” video). Maybe Mary Beth Barone sings “Back to Black” as well. Ugh my funeral is gonna be one for the books!

Mary Beth: Benny singing a jazz standard of “Welcome To My Island (Remix).”

If you could swap music libraries with anyone for a day, who would it be?

Mary Beth: Mark Ronson.

Benny: Alex Chapman! I know he’s got some sexy little playlists in there!!

Do you listen to music while you exercise? What kind?

Mary Beth: Hyper pop or rap <3

Benny: Yes! Today it was LUX by ROSALÍA (butt day) and then Midnight Sun (Girls Trip). For three months straight it was Fancy That. I’m consistent and also gay x.

What’s the last song you sent to a friend, and why?

Benny: I sent a cover Amber Bain (The Japanese House) did of “Kiss Me” to a friend because it’s in season 2 [of Overcompensating] and I think it’s the best thing ever made.

Mary Beth: I can’t say!!!

Earbuds or wired headphones?

Mary Beth: Wired because AirPods are too heavy for my tiny earlobes. That’s real.
