  3. EducationUniversitas Brawijaya Forest operates thermal drone to strengthen fire mitigationMALANG, E. JAVA, Indonesia, Sept 9, 2026 - Although this thermal drone helps in detection, its flight duration is limitedlasting a maximum of about 30 minutes per flight. Conducting longer patrols requires additional batteries and a schedule of two patrols per week. Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Forest management is strengthening forest fire mitigation techniques by deploying a Matrice 30T thermal drone which capable of detecting hotspots from the air within the area. Muhammad Yusuf, the Coordinator for Forest Area Protection and Supervision at UB Forest, stated in an official release received in Malang City, East Java, on Thursday, that the technology assists personnel in obtaining preliminary information regarding suspected fire hotspots before field interventions are carried out. "If a hotspot is detected, we immediately go to the site to check. If a fire is found, it will promptly be extinguished," Yusuf said. The use of this drone represents a preparedness measure by UB Forest management to prevent fires amidst an increasingly drier dry season.Such dry conditions necessitate more intensive monitoring patterns. The team utilized the technology to monitor the area between August 25 and 27, 2026, yielding results when a fire was detected just outside the sitespecifically in the border zone between UB Forest and the adjacent to forest area. Nevertheless, Yusuf noted that findings from aerial monitoring remain a concern for personnel, as the fire could potentially spread into UB Forest if not addressed quickly. He added that the detected fire was successfully brought under control and extinguished. Afterward, personnel conducted a sweep to ensure no new hotspots emerged, including within the UB Forest area itself. Thankfully, everything is still safe; the team conducted another check using drones, and nothing was found, he said. In an effort to safeguard the forest area, management involves local farmers who cultivate the land through a cooperation agreement scheme.Rifqi Rahmat Hidayatullah, the Coordinator of Functional Position Group (KJF) for Education, Training, and Development at UB Forest Management Unit (UPT), explained that the use of thermal drones is one way to extend the reach and strengthen patrolswhich are traditionally conducted on the groundto detect potential fires. Foot or motorcycle patrols have limited range, he noted. He further explained that the Matrice 30T thermal drone is equipped with sensors which capable of detecting surface temperatures. When an area with a higher temperature than its surroundings is detected, officers can direct the drone to that location to inspect it using the device's zoom-capable camera. Yulianto Muji Nugroho, an Educational Laboratory Technician (PLP) at UB Forest, stated that in a single flight, the drone can cover an area of approximately 10 hectares, with a maximum monitoring range of about 500 meters. This capability allows officers to monitor a wider area from the air. In one flight, the Matrice 30T can cover an area of around 10 hectares, with a maximum monitoring range of about 500 meters of 60-80 ht. This reach helps officers gain an initial overview of the area's condition without having to manually sweep the entire site. “Although this thermal drone helps in detection, its flight duration is limitedlasting a maximum of about 30 minutes per flight. Conducting longer patrols requires additional batteries and a schedule of two patrols per week. he said. Due to these limitations, the drone serves as a supporting tool within the early detection system rather than a replacement for field patrols.Despite the use of technology, UB Forest managers recognize that fire mitigation still requires public awareness. Having spent much of my career building and leading sales and marketing teams across Asia Pacific, I understand firsthand the scale of opportunity these markets represent for graphene-enhanced thermal, lubricant and energy storage solutions. India, South Korea, Japan and South-East Asia are home to some of the world's largest and fastest-growing manufacturing, automotive, electronics and data-centre industries, and together with Australia and New Zealand they represent a natural extension of our go-to-market footprint. Our new team has already been engaging directly with customers and channel partners across the region since early 2026, and we are encouraged by the level of interest and early traction we are seeing. This regional build-out complements our recent production milestones, including the start-up of our Gen 2.0 graphene production plant, and positions GMG to convert growing global demand into commercial outcomes across some of the most important industrial economies in the world." Jack Perkowski, Chairman and Non-Executive Director of GMG, commented: "The Board is very pleased to see GMG take this next step in its international growth strategy. Establishing a dedicated presence in Asia Pacific is a logical and important move given the depth of industrial activity in these markets and their relevance to GMG's core product lines in thermal management, lubricants and energy storage. This is a region I know well from my own experience helping international companies establish and scale operations in Asia, and I am confident that GMG's new team will be well placed to build the relationships and market knowledge required to succeed there. The Board looks forward to updating shareholders on the team's progress as it builds out its pipeline across India, South Korea, Japan, South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand." About GMG GMG is an Australian based clean-technology company which develops, makes and sells energy saving and energy storage solutions, enabled by graphene manufactured via in house production process. GMG uses its own proprietary production process to decompose natural gas (i.e. methane) into its natural elements, carbon (as graphene), hydrogen and some residual hydrocarbon gases. This process produces high quality, low cost, scalable, 'tuneable' and low/no contaminant graphene suitable for use in clean-technology and other applications. The Company's present focus is to de-risk and develop commercial scale-up capabilities, and secure market applications. In the energy savings segment, GMG has initially focused on graphene enhanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning ("HVAC-R") coating (or energy-saving coating) which is now being marketed into other applications including electronic heat sinks, industrial process plants and data centres. Another product GMG has developed is the graphene lubricant additive focused on saving liquid fuels initially for diesel engines. GMG is also developing a graphene coolant additive focused on energy saving for data centres and industrial cooling applications. In the energy storage segment, GMG and the University of Queensland are working collaboratively with financial support from the Australian Government to progress R&D and commercialization of GMG Graphene Batteries. GMG has also developed a graphene additive slurry that is aimed to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries. GMG's 4 critical business objectives are: Produce Graphene and improve/scale cell production processes Build Revenue from Energy Savings Products Develop Next-Generation Battery Develop Supply Chain, Partners & Project Execution Capability For further information please contact: Craig Nicol, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of the Company at [email protected], +61 415 445 223 Leo Karabelas at Focus Communications Investor Relations, [email protected], +1 647 689 6041 www.graphenemg.com Neither the TSX Venture Exchange nor its Regulation Services Provider (as that term is defined in the policies of the TSX Venture Exchange) accept responsibility for the adequacy or accuracy of this news release.
