- C60 Power Celebrates National C60 Day on October 9Boulder, CO Wednesday Oct 7, 2026 @ 7:00 AM Eastern — C60 Power, a woman owned wellness company specializing in Carbon 60 products for people and animals, celebrates National C60 Day every October 9. Created by C60 Power, the observance falls on the anniversary of October 9, 1996, the day the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of fullerenes. This year, consumers can enjoy educational events, community stories, and a 20% storewide sale at ShopC60.com. National C60 Day, also known as National Carbon 60 Day, C60 Day or Carbon 60 Day, recognizes the discovery of C60, also called buckminsterfullerene or a "buckyball." C60 is a hollow, spherical molecule made of exactly 60 carbon atoms arranged in 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons, the same pattern found on a classic soccer ball. A Discovery Written in the Stars In 1985, British chemist Harold Kroto joined Rice University scientists Robert Curl and Richard Smalley to recreate the chemistry of carbon rich stars in the laboratory, and their experiments revealed C60. Kroto, a longtime admirer of architect R. Buckminster Fuller's geodesic domes helped give the molecule its name in honor of Buckminster. In 1990, Wolfgang Krätschmer and Donald Huffman developed a method to produce C60 in quantities large enough to study, and the journal Science named buckminsterfullerene its Molecule of the Year for 1991. Curl, Kroto, and Smalley were awarded the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discovery. In 2010, astronomers using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope detected C60 in Tc 1, a cloud of gas and dust shed by a dying star, the first confirmed sighting of buckyballs in space. "National C60 Day gives us an opportunity to honor the science that introduced this extraordinary molecule to the world. This holiday may help consumers understand the importance of purity, and 3rd-party testing, along with the opportunity to learn more about the potential of the molecule," said Jessica MacNaughton, CEO and cofounder of C60 Power. "Our goal is to make reliable C60 education more accessible and give people the information they need to make informed choices for themselves and their animals." What Researchers Are Studying Since its discovery, C60 research has expanded into chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, energy, skincare and wellness. Its ability to interact with free radicals is one reason C60 continues to attract attention in antioxidant research. Interest in C60 and healthy aging grew after a 2012 study reported that rats given C60 dissolved in olive oil lived longer than untreated rats. Consumers can review published studies at WhatIsC60.org and ShopC60.com/research. How to Celebrate National C60 Day Share the story. - Chisos Skips Calfskin, Sources Dairy-Cow Hides, and Treats Care as Part of the ProductAustin, TX Tuesday Oct 6, 2026 @ 12:00 AM Central — Most cowboy boot marketing starts at the shaft and stops at the toe. Chisos Boot Company starts earlier: at the hide, the tannery standards behind it, and the habits that keep a pair alive for decades. In a June 2026 video, the Austin bootmaker put the thesis in one line. Honesty is not a finish. It is the supply chain. Chisos, the family-owned company founded in 2019 by Will Roman, does not use calfskin. Heritage cowhide for the line is chosen in part because mature dairy hides are tough enough for boots meant to be worn hard and repaired, and because that choice reduces demand for juvenile-animal harvesting. "We work with tanneries that source from dairy farms and we don’t use juvenile leathers," Roman said. "We’re very particular about the standards that the entire supply chain is using when we pick a leather or any of our materials." What the leather is asked to do Structural interiors are vegetable-tanned leather: the hard insole, outsole, heel counter, and toe box. Those parts are meant to conform to the foot over time, hold shape, and accept a cobbler’s work later. Chisos also describes a lead-free tanning approach on its Story page and develops its own heritage leather character rather than chasing uniform, disposable fashion stock. Outside, the same logic holds. Soles are set for repair. Goodyear welt construction with a leather channel welt means the sole can be replaced without throwing away the boot. Lemonwood pegs and brass nails move with leather instead of fighting it. A stacked leather heel and steel shank keep the architecture honest under daily miles. The removable comfort insole helps people actually wear the boots all day, which is what turns "built to last" from a slogan into a life cycle. "We’re conscious of the durability of that boot, the longevity, how it’s going to move and adjust to you over time," Roman said. Channel welting takes more skill and more time. Chisos does it anyway. "We think it’s the best way, and we think it’s worth it." Care is part of the product In July 2026 the company followed the materials message with a care message. Proper boot care is not a snap of the fingers after months of hard wear. It is a brush, conditioner, and time. Chisos sells its own leather balm for that reason: keep the leather conditioned, ready for weather, and improving with age instead of drying out. Roman’s practical list matches how the boots are built. Rotate pairs when you can. Pull the comfort insole and let the boot dry. Cedar boot trees help manage moisture and salt from sweat that make leather expand and contract. Condition on a cadence. For leather soles headed into wet or abrasive miles, a cobbler-applied rubber sole saver or a future leather resole extends life without pretending the first tread should be immortal. "The type of legacy I want to leave does not allow me to cut corners, because then I would know," Roman said. "And I know that the type of people drawn to Chisos are similar. They don’t cut corners in their lives, and they hold us to a higher standard as well." In a category crowded with short product cycles, Chisos treats longevity as the real sustainability play: fewer pairs discarded, more pairs resoled, hides chosen for the long haul, and care instructions published in public instead of buried in a warranty. Chisos boots, leather balm, and care guidance are available at chisos.com and at Chisos HQ, 3507 S 1st St, Austin, Texas. More on materials and care: youtube.com/Chisos.
