  1. EducationWorld first - rare froglets born at London Zoo in breakthrough for Critically Endangered speciesWednesday 14 October, 2026 Conservationists are celebrating the birth of 15 Afia Birago's puddle frogs at London Zoo - a major milestone in ZSL and Ghanaian partners' urgent efforts to save one of the world's rarest, smallest amphibians from extinction. Currently no bigger than the tip of a pencil, the tiny froglets are the first of their species to be born under human care anywhere in the world, following the arrival of 20 adult frogs from Ghana last year as part of a collaborative conservation effort with Herp Conservation Ghana and the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana.ZSL Curator of Reptiles and Amphibians Ben Tapley said: "These 15 frogs are the first Afia Birago's puddle frogs born as part of our emergency conservation programme for the species. They may be tiny enough to sit on your fingertip, but their arrival represents a huge step forward for an amphibian facing an uncertain future."Afia Birago's puddle frog (Phrynobatrachus afiabirago) was described as a new species to science just eight years ago, but it has since been found to survive in just two perennial pools in Ghana's Atewa Hills Forest Reserve. Sadly this habitat is being destroyed by mining. This meant conservationists faced an urgent race to protect the species, which exists nowhere else on Earth, before it was too late.In September 2025, with the species facing imminent risk of extinction, an action plan was formed. With limited experience in amphibian care and challenges sourcing equipment locally, it was decided that 20 Critically Endangered Afia Birago's puddle frogs should be moved to ZSL's London Zoo where its world leading amphibian experts could learn as much as possible about these species to share with those leading efforts in Ghana, while time was left to do so.ZSL Amphibian Keeper Unnar Aevarsson said: "When the adult frogs arrived in London last year, almost nothing was known about them. Using our extensive experience caring for amphibians, our team have since learned so much more about these incredible frogs - developing the knowledge, techniques and breeding protocols needed to give them the best chance of survival."These 5mm long froglets are cause for celebration, but our work to save Afia Birago's puddle frog has only just begun: the wider goal now is for our partners to establish sustainable conservation populations in Ghana that can support their recovery in the wild - these births make that a real possibility."Before the frogs' 2025 arrival, Unnar travelled to Ghana to help establish a conservation breeding facility in Kumasi - the first dedicated to amphibian conservation in West Africa - and gather the information about the frogs' natural environment the team needed to inform their new home at London Zoo.Knowledge gained from the breeding programme is being shared with colleagues at the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana's breeding centre in Kumasi, helping to inform their efforts to establish a conservation population in Ghana.Meanwhile, ZSL EDGE Fellow Anthony Churcher, part of Herp Conservation Ghana, is investigating potential habitat on private land surrounding the Atewa Hills Forest Reserve that could support future releases of frogs bred in Ghana.Award-winning Ghanaian conservationist and ZSL EDGE Regional Project Manager Caleb Ofori-Boateng, who helped describe Afia Birago's puddle frog to science and named it after his mother, said: "I named this frog after my mother so that her legacy would live on. Thanks to this breeding programme, it will. Her name will be linked to a species we saved, not one we lost."Dr Kwame Antwi Oduro, Director of the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana, said: "Protecting the species that live in Ghana's forests is central to our mandate. This collaboration with ZSL shows what science and partnership can achieve together, and it is building the skills and facilities Ghana needs to safeguard its own threatened wildlife."Visitors to London Zoo can now see the conservation programme in action at Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians, where the frogs are being cared for by London Zoo's specialist amphibian team.Unnar added: "The global amphibian crisis means collaborative conservation work like this is crucial. These frogs are in themselves extraordinary animals, but they are also a reminder of how much wildlife we still stand to lose."Our visitors are already in awe of these miniature frogs, which weigh less than 1.75g each fully grown. By seeing them and learning about the work taking place here and in Ghana, they are directly supporting ZSL's work, making them part of the Afia Birago's puddle frog conservation story."Be part of conservation action at London Zoo - book online now and enjoy a day out that makes a difference for wildlife around the world: http://www.londonzoo.org/-ENDS-

  5. FinanceMelamine foam manufacturer FoamTech adds EN 13501-1 Class B-s1, d0 fire rating as European interior specifications tightenWednesday 14 October, 2026 The Yiwu-based manufacturer also holds IATF 16949 and AS9100D, delivers rail interior material against EN 45545 project specifications, and has had its melamine foam carbon footprint verified to ISO 14067:2018 by TÜV SÜD. YIWU, Zhejiang, China — 14 October 2026 — FoamTech (Zhejiang) New Materials Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of melamine foam for thermal insulation, acoustic treatment and fire-rated interiors, today confirmed that its melamine foam carries the European construction fire classification EN 13501-1 Class B-s1, d0. EN 13501-1 is the reaction-to-fire classification standard applied to construction products across the European Union and the UK. The designation has three parts: B indicates a limited contribution to fire spread; s1 is the lowest smoke-production bracket; and d0 indicates no flaming droplets. The final element is frequently the one that narrows the field in enclosed interior applications, where a falling, burning droplet can spread fire below the point of ignition. The same class is expressed in the Chinese system, where the material is separately graded as GB 8624 B1 (B-s1, d0) for domestic projects. Melamine foam derives its fire performance from the nitrogen content of the melamine resin itself rather than from halogenated flame-retardant additives. That is a property of the material, not a coating, and it survives cutting and converting. “Our customers in Europe rarely ask for a single data-sheet number,” said Kiko Fan, Overseas Manager at FoamTech. “They ask which classification a product holds, who tested it, and whether the same result applies to the thickness and density they are actually specifying. So we publish the classification and the test method together, and we keep the underlying reports available to specifiers.” Three qualification streams on one set of lines Melamine foam for building interiors is only one of the release regimes FoamTech works under. The company holds IATF 16949, the quality management standard for automotive suppliers, and AS9100D, its aerospace counterpart, for its melamine foam production, alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. In practice this means incoming-material control, batch traceability and release testing on the lines that produce standard insulation grades are governed by automotive and aerospace control plans. Material supplied for HVAC ductwork, chilled-water and process piping, or acoustic treatment inherits that release discipline. Rail interiors: supplied to project requirements Rail interior work follows a different route. Rather than claiming a blanket approval, FoamTech supplies against individual project specifications that call for compliance with EN 45545, the European fire-safety standard for railway vehicles. That includes interior applications on rolling stock built by CRRC, the Chinese rolling-stock manufacturer, where the hazard level is set by the vehicle programme rather than by the foam supplier. Material is tested and documented to the hazard level named in the customer's specification, and the supporting test evidence travels with the delivery documentation. Test documentation held Independent test evidence held by the company includes: UL 94 V-0 rated formulations; Carbon footprint verified Separately from fire performance, the carbon footprint of the company's melamine foam has been verified to ISO 14067:2018 by TÜV SÜD, the German testing and certification group. The verification covers data from October 2024 to September 2025 and was carried out to a reasonable-assurance level, with an unqualified statement of conformity. The verified figure is 86.18 kg CO2e per 2560 × 1300 × 430 mm block, from cradle to gate — that is, raw material and manufacturing stages. Standards work FoamTech is listed among the drafting units of Chinese national and industry standards for plastics and thermal insulation, including QB/T 8216-2026 (cleaning melamine foam), and participates in current revision work on test methods for foam combustion behaviour and water-vapour transmission in building materials. About FoamTech FoamTech (Zhejiang) New Materials Co., Ltd. is a melamine foam manufacturer registered in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, China (legal entity registered 2020-12-29; group operations since 2014). The company produces melamine foam blocks, sheets, acoustic panels, thermal insulation, hydrophobic grades and cleaning sponges, and supplies converted and die-cut parts. It holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IATF 16949 and AS9100D, has completed a BSCI social-compliance audit, operates a FAMA Authorized Facility in Yiwu, and has an annual melamine foam production capacity of 300,000 m³. 9. AIAirwheel to Showcase Ai Wheel 20inch Carry-On Hand Scooter Robot Cabin Luxury Suitcase at the 140th Canton FairGuangzhou, Oct 14, 2026 - Airwheel, a smart mobility brand specializing in intelligent rideable luggage and personal mobility solutions, will showcase the SE3SXD Ai Luxury Suitcase and a range of smart electric cabin suitcases at the 140th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair). Across the exhibition, Airwheel will present its latest product innovations, engineering capabilities and expanding portfolio to international distributors, retailers and business partners seeking differentiated solutions for the evolving travel market. As travel increasingly intersects with connected technology and personal mobility, Airwheel is exploring a new role for luggage: moving beyond storage to become an active part of the travel experience. Through electric riding systems, intelligent controls and user-oriented industrial design, the company aims to make everyday journeys more convenient while creating new possibilities for the traditional luggage category. SE3SXD: A New Approach to the Smart Cabin Luxury Suitcase At the center of Airwheel's exhibition lineup is the SE3SXD AI Smart Electric Suitcase, a flagship model that combines luggage storage, electric riding and connected features in a single product. Designed around the idea of making technology more intuitive, the SE3SXD features a one-touch dual-drive automatic telescopic mechanism. Its powered front-wheel structure and linked smart handle are designed to extend and lock into riding position through a coordinated operation, reducing the need for multiple manual adjustments when switching from luggage mode to riding mode. The SE3SXD integrates electric mobility with smart connectivity. Through its dedicated app, users can access riding-related information and control functions, while Apple Find My support provides an additional way to locate the suitcase using compatible Apple devices. A USB output offers added convenience for charging compatible personal electronics. The model reaches a maximum riding speed of 9.9 km/h, supports a maximum load of 95 kg and provides approximately 20 liters of storage capacity. It uses a removable 73.26Wh lithium battery, and its compact format is designed with modern carry-on travel in mind. Rather than adding technology for its own sake, Airwheel's approach focuses on integrating mechanical engineering, intelligent interaction and practical travel functions into one cohesive product experience. A Broader Portfolio for Different Travel Needs The SE3SXD is part of a wider Airwheel smart rideable luggage portfolio developed for different users, travel scenarios and retail segments. The SE3SX offers a premium smart electric cabin suitcase experience, combining electric riding, app connectivity and Apple Find My support in a compact format. The SE3SL+ Boarding Suitcase emphasizes lightweight construction and everyday travel convenience, while the established SE3S and SE3SL Scooter suitcase models bring electric riding functionality to the familiar suitcase form. For travelers seeking a more compact option, the SE3MiniT Hand Suitcase offers a smaller rideable luggage format. The SE3T provides a larger-capacity solution for family and extended travel scenarios, while the SQ3 and SQ3S Kids suitcase series bring rideable luggage concepts to family-oriented and younger-user applications. Together, these products reflect Airwheel's strategy of developing a portfolio rather than relying on a single flagship model. For international buyers, the range creates opportunities to evaluate different product configurations and identify solutions that match local consumer preferences, retail positioning and distribution strategies. Engineering Innovation Backed by Global Intellectual Property Airwheel's product development is supported by continued investment in research and development. The company reports more than 600 patents globally, covering areas including electric drive systems, motion control, intelligent sensing, structural engineering and human-machine interaction. These technologies support the development of integrated smart mobility products in which mechanical structures, electronic controls and user interfaces work together. In rideable luggage, this requires more than adding a motor to a suitcase: it involves coordinating the riding mechanism, handling characteristics, control systems and conventional luggage functions within a compact product. Airwheel's broader intellectual property strategy also includes trademarks registered in more than 168 countries and regions, supporting its international brand development and market presence. For Airwheel, intellectual property represents both an engineering foundation and a long-term commitment to product differentiation in an increasingly competitive global market. International Design Recognition and Premium Market Development Design is another important part of Airwheel's product strategy. The company's smart rideable luggage portfolio has received more than 100 international design awards, according to Airwheel, with recognition spanning design programs and markets in the United States, Europe, Japan, Italy, Germany and France. Among the recognized programs are the German iF Design Award, the U.S. International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), the MUSE Design Awards, the Berlin Design Awards, the European Product Design Awards and other international design competitions. Different products have received different honors over time, reflecting the portfolio's continued development across form, functionality and user experience. For Airwheel, design is not limited to exterior appearance. It also involves the relationship between the suitcase's structure, riding mechanism, portability, controls and the way users interact with the product during a journey. The company is also expanding its presence in premium retail environments and established retail channels. Its products have entered selected high-end shopping malls and retail networks, while models including the SE3SL+ and SE3ST have gained placement in Sam's Club in China. These channel developments provide additional opportunities for consumers to experience smart rideable luggage in physical retail settings and for the brand to broaden its reach beyond online sales. Airwheel's strategy combines product innovation, international design recognition and retail development to build a more differentiated position in the smart travel market. 10.
