A colleague told Art that he inspired his son to pursue engineering. Art considers this his greatest achievement. He said, “If you can positively impact one person in this room, that’s remarkable.””

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, UNITED STATES, October 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Scott Crump and Jeff Cernohous jointly received the inaugural Art Fry Product Innovation Award on September 25, 2026, at Best Buy’s headquarters during ProductCamp Twin Cities. Fry, 95, joined the gathering and presented the awards.

Crump, co-founder of Stratasys, developed Fused Deposition Modeling, a process that builds three-dimensional objects layer by layer. Cernohous, a former 3M polymer processing scientist, developed 3D printing materials after joining Stratasys. The two were nominated separately and recognized for their complementary contributions as Twin Cities pioneers in 3D printing. Brandon Cernohous accepted on behalf of his father.

The award honors Fry’s legacy and the curiosity, persistence and collaboration behind successful products. Recognizing both innovators reflects Fry’s longstanding practice of sharing credit with his late collaborator, Spencer Silver, whose adhesive chemistry made the Post-it Note possible.

The award will be presented annually at ProductCamp Twin Cities. The award celebrates Minnesota’s innovation history and the people carrying it forward. The conference brings together the region’s product community and is organized by the Minnesota chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA).

Best Buy hosted the conference at its headquarters, with financial support for the award from Kablooe Design.
