New Downhill Skateboard Speed Record - 94.34 mph / 151.83 km/h - Set by Diego Poncelet Using Wheels and Bearings from Seismic Skate Systems

Diego Poncelet Sanchez-Cuenca, a 27-year-old skateboard racing icon from Spain and Switzerland, sped 94.34 mph (151.83 km/h) down a massively long, steep hill on Route du Port in Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada – shattering the previous Guinness World Record set nine years ago on the same storied slope. Poncelet is now the fastest downhill skateboarder in history.

Poncelet's main corporate sponsors were Red Bull, Porsche, and Prada. For the all-important wheels and bearings, he turned to Seismic Skate Systems of Boulder, Colorado. On the afternoon of Sept. 22, with a Guinness judge as witness, the two-time World Champion eclipsed the prior record holder, his late friend Pete Connolly of England, who also used wheels from Seismic to achieve his 2017 mark of 91.17 mph (143.73 km/h).

Poncelet rolled on Seismic's Megawatt wheels and Fullspin Pro Spec bearings, mounted to trucks fitted with Seismic's Defcon bushings and a deck topped with Seismic's Lokton grip tape.

The astonishing high-speed run was captured on video by Red Bull and made public on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube on October 15, 2026.

"Next-level wheel and bearing tech was mission-critical," said Poncelet. "Seismic poured a custom run of Megawatt wheels specifically for this record attempt, using a prototype ultra-high-rebound urethane formula. Combining these wheels with Seismic's state-of-the-art ceramic bearings helped me squeeze every last bit of speed out of the hill. I broke my personal best on the very first test run, and I reached 151.83 only a few runs later!"

Poncelet added, "Seismic's grip tape kept me securely locked on the board when there was no room for error, and their truck bushings kept me stable and balanced at this unprecedented speed."

Most elite downhill skateboarders had thought 150 km/h to be unattainable. Guinness World Records official adjudicator Andrew Glass called it "one of the most impressive feats I have ever seen." The new mark is the latest of many world speed and distance records set on wheels and bearings from Seismic.

Poncelet's Megawatt wheels previewed Seismic's newest high-speed urethane compound, slated for market introduction early next year. The Seismic Fullspin Pro Spec bearings set inside his wheels were custom-developed with a team of engineers from one of the world's leading bearing factories. They feature extra-tough carbonitrided raceway surfaces and a patented spacing system that ensures highly precise alignment.

Said Seismic founder Daniel Gesmer, "We're beyond stoked that Diego chose Seismic for the mission-critical components of his record-smashing setup. It's far from trivial to push skateboard performance to these rarefied levels. As in any other modern sport, advanced materials science and mechanical engineering must be in long-term dialogue with rigorous field testing."

"It's extremely gratifying to see a generational talent use the hard-won results of our careful product development work to transcend athletic limits previously thought insurmountable," Gesmer added. "This breakthrough performance deserves to elevate the global profile of all skateboard racing disciplines."

The Seismic Lokton grip tape used by Poncelet is made with ceramic grains that are noticeably sharper, tougher, and grippier than those seen on traditional skateboard grip tape. The Seismic bushings in his trucks, poured with the company's Defcon race urethane compound, provide uniquely calm, predictable handling at high speeds, where skateboards are prone to wobble.

Other aspects of Poncelet's meticulous preparation included extensive wind tunnel testing to perfect his tuck; specialized strength and mobility training; and custom development of aerodynamic helmet, speed suit, and shoes.

About Seismic Skate Systems, the skateboard industry technology leader and maker of the world's fastest skateboard wheels and bearings

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Seismic Skate Systems is one of the oldest and most respected longboard skateboard brands in the world. Seismic has been pushing the envelope of progressive skate technology since 1993, when it introduced the first high-precision truck of the modern longboard era. Today Seismic designs and manufactures high-performance trucks, wheels, bearings, boards, and accessories for skateboard carving, cruising, freeride, racing, and beyond. The brand is the brainchild of Daniel Gesmer, a Yale graduate who innovated a unique artistic approach to flatland freestyle skateboarding in the 1980s.
