One of Oklahoma City’s central neighbourhoods will turn into a district-wide shopping and entertainment route on Saturday, October 24, when Midtown Walkabout returns with local merchants, a Walker Avenue market and free activities designed to encourage visitors to explore Midtown on foot.
Running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the fall event is organised by the Midtown Association and Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership. Participating businesses will offer special promotions, while a pop-up market on Walker Avenue between Park Place and 12th Street will bring together 30 small businesses, according to the event announcement.
The format combines a neighbourhood shopping day with performances and activities for different age groups. Alongside sidewalk sales and browsing opportunities, visitors can find free caricatures, face painting, on-demand typewriter poetry and tarot card readings. Magician Joe Coover is scheduled to perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Scavenger hunt and live performances across Midtown
The Black Cat Scavenger Hunt offers an additional way to discover local storefronts. Participants can collect a game card at the Midtown information tent at the corner of NW 11th Street and North Walker Avenue, look for hidden black-cat figures at participating businesses, and return their completed cards by 5 p.m. for a chance to win prizes. The organisers say winners will be notified by November 7.
Live music is planned at McNellie’s OKC, The Collective Food Hall and The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen. Other participants are offering activities ranging from creative workshops to shop-specific deals and seasonal food specials. The official Midtown Walkabout programme provides a directory of participating venues, promotions and activities.
“Midtown is always growing, and Walkabout gives people a fun way to experience that firsthand,” said Apryl Awbrey, Midtown district manager. She said the event offers an opportunity to discover new locations, revisit favourite businesses and meet the people who operate them.
Midtown lies just north of downtown Oklahoma City’s core and includes independent retailers, dining establishments and historic streetscapes. For visitors, the Walkabout offers a time-limited way to sample several businesses and neighbourhood experiences during one afternoon. Broader destination information is available through Visit Oklahoma City.
The event is sponsored by Phillips Murrah P.C. and Edge at Midtown, with programming support from Arts Council OKC’s Art Moves. Attendees can check the official event page before travelling for the latest participating-business information and programming details.
