REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 21, 2026 — Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced that Volkswagen Group has now equipped more than 330,000 employees across the company with Microsoft Copilot, helping its workforce increase productivity, accelerate decisions and improve knowledge-based processes across the organization.

“The real value of AI comes from making it available at scale in everyday work,” said Sophie Vassarotti, Head of Group Data and AI, Volkswagen Group. “With Copilot, we are bringing secure and trusted AI support to our employees, helping them work more efficiently and make better-informed decisions.”

Volkswagen Group’s broad-scale deployment of Copilot is the latest step in the Group’s deliberate, phased approach to AI adoption. The organization’s phased rollout began with providing employees with broad access to AI-powered chat via Copilot Chat, for which Volkswagen saw upwards of 300,000 monthly active users on the platform.

Today, employees are leveraging Copilot with Work IQ for more advanced productivity scenarios, embedding AI even more deeply into the most business processes — spanning from engineering to production, procurement and sales. In addition, more than 26,000 agents have been active across the Group over the past month alone, scaling AI-driven productivity gains.

“By bringing Microsoft Copilot to more than 330,000 employees, Volkswagen Group is putting AI directly into the flow of work — helping people boost productivity, accelerate decisions and focus on higher-value tasks,” said Agnes Heftberger, Chair of the Management Board of Microsoft Germany. “Volkswagen shows how companies can evolve AI from a personal productivity tool into a foundation for future AI innovation.”

In addition, Microsoft and Volkswagen Group intend to expand their collaboration and further scale the Intelligent Data Foundation, the Group’s unified data ecosystem, on Microsoft Fabric, to make trusted data easier to find, understand and use across the entire company.
