Lewis' Independence in West Sacramento brings 208 brand-new rental homes with private garages and resort-style community amenities to the growing Southport area

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., October 23, 2026--Independence in West Sacramento, a new gated community of 208 townhome-style rental homes developed by Lewis Apartments, will officially open its leasing office and model homes to the public on Saturday, October 24. The leasing office and models will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Located in West Sacramento's Southport/Bridgeway Island area, Independence introduces rental homes designed for residents who want the space and privacy of a single-family home without the responsibilities and costs that homeownership can bring. The community offers brand-new two- and three-bedroom homes ranging from approximately 1,176 to 1,722 square feet, with private entrances, direct-access one- and two-car garages and private outdoor living spaces.

The opening comes as West Sacramento continues to grow as a residential and employment destination directly across the Sacramento River from the urban core. Independence is positioned to serve renters who want to remain closely connected to Downtown and Midtown Sacramento while enjoying more room, convenient parking and a quieter residential setting at home.

Residents have convenient access to Downtown Sacramento, the State Capitol, Golden 1 Center and DOCO, Old Sacramento Waterfront, Sutter Health Park and the region's major employment and healthcare centers. The community also provides access to I-80, I-5 and Highway 50, connecting residents throughout the greater Sacramento region.

Inside the homes, contemporary features include quartz countertops with full-height backsplashes, stainless-steel ENERGY STAR appliances, induction ranges, French-door refrigerators, modern cabinetry, wood-style plank flooring, in-home washers and dryers, walk-in closets and smart-home technology. Garages include EV-charging capabilities, and select homes provide additional garage storage.

Community amenities include a heated pool and spa with shaded cabanas, a 24-hour fitness center and specialty fitness studio, pickleball courts, outdoor barbecue and gathering areas, a fire table, dog park and dog spa, play area, package lockers and a Borrow-a-Bike program.

Independence in West Sacramento is Lewis' second Independence rental-home community in Northern California, following Independence in Dixon, which opened in 2025. Building on the momentum of the Dixon and West Sacramento communities, Lewis plans to expand the Independence concept to additional Northern California markets, with future communities planned in Folsom, Vacaville, Fairfield, Newark and other locations.
