L. Ron Hubbard Life Exhibition Marks 35th Anniversary in the Heart of Hollywood

The L. Ron Hubbard Life Exhibition commemorated its 35th anniversary, bringing together dignitaries, neighbors and members of the community to celebrate a Hollywood institution dedicated to the life and accomplishments of author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Flags flown over the United States Capitol and California State Capitol honored the milestone.

Since its dedication on April 21, 1991, the Exhibition has introduced visitors from across the country and around the world to the extraordinary breadth of Mr. Hubbard’s life. Through dozens of displays, photographs, artifacts and audiovisual presentations, visitors explore his early adventures, travels, literary career and research into the mind and spirit that culminated in Dianetics and the Scientology religion.

Located just a block from Hollywood and Vine, the Exhibition also illuminates Mr. Hubbard’s contributions to American popular fiction and his work as a screenwriter during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

The anniversary renewed connections extending to the Exhibition’s opening, when California State Senator David Roberti joined Hollywood civic and cultural leaders for its dedication. Nyla Arslanian, then President of the Hollywood Arts Council, sent a congratulatory letter recalling her participation alongside Roberti and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Bill Welsh. She described the occasion as “A cherished Hollywood memory.”

A member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce since its opening, the Exhibition continues its longstanding participation in the cultural and civic life of Hollywood.

A Setting Rooted in Hollywood History The L. Ron Hubbard Life Exhibition occupies the historic Hollywood Guaranty Building, completed in 1923 and designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederic M. Ashley. Austin’s architectural legacy also includes Griffith Observatory and the Shrine Auditorium, designed in collaboration with other architects.

Charlie Chaplin and Cecil B. DeMille were investors in the building, linking it to the formative years of Hollywood’s motion picture industry. Within the Exhibition, meticulously restored interiors and ornate gold-leaf ceilings preserve the character of this Hollywood landmark.
