American Airlines to Launch Miami–Barcelona Venezuela Flights in January 2027

Three weekly Embraer 175 services will extend the airline’s restored Venezuela network to 24 flights a week, with tickets on sale October 19.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Nonstop Miami–Barcelona flights are scheduled to begin January 15, 2027, operating Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • The route will use Embraer 175 aircraft; published departures are 10:15 a.m. from Miami and 3:32 p.m. from Barcelona.
  • Tickets are scheduled to become available on October 19 through American Airlines’ booking channels.
  • The new route is expected to bring American’s Miami–Venezuela programme to 24 weekly flights across three cities.

American Airlines is adding Barcelona in eastern Venezuela to its Miami route network, with a new nonstop service scheduled to begin on January 15, 2027. The three-times-weekly connection will give travellers heading to Anzoátegui state another direct link with the United States and expand the carrier’s restored Venezuelan network beyond Caracas and Maracaibo.

The flights are planned for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, using an Embraer 175 with a premium cabin, Wi-Fi and in-seat power. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale October 19 through American Airlines’ website and mobile app, according to the airline’s October 16 announcement.

Flight times and connections

The published timetable lists departure from Miami International Airport (MIA) at 10:15 a.m., arriving at Barcelona (BLA) at 2:52 p.m. The return is scheduled to leave Barcelona at 3:32 p.m. and arrive in Miami at 6:19 p.m. All times are those published by American in Eastern Time; travellers should confirm their itinerary and local airport times when booking.

Miami serves as the airline’s major gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. American says passengers travelling from Barcelona will be able to connect via the hub to more than 100 destinations across North America, an option with particular relevance to business visitors and people travelling to see family and friends.

Barcelona and neighbouring Puerto La Cruz are commercial and industrial centres in Venezuela’s east. The planned route provides a direct option for the region rather than requiring passengers to begin an international journey through Caracas or Maracaibo, although actual travel convenience will depend on each passenger’s final destination and onward arrangements.

Venezuela network reaches 24 weekly departures

Once the new Barcelona flights begin, American expects to operate 24 weekly flights between Miami and Venezuela: 14 to Caracas (CCS), seven to Maracaibo (MAR) and three to Barcelona. The carrier resumed flights to Venezuela earlier in 2026 after a suspension dating to 2019, rebuilding a market in which it previously had a substantial presence.

Stephen Neuman, American’s senior vice president and chief government affairs officer, described the addition as part of the airline’s long-term commitment to Venezuela. The airline also acknowledged support from U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the two countries’ governments.

Beyond commercial operations, American reported operating a humanitarian relief flight to Caracas following earthquakes in Venezuela, transporting more than 9,000 pounds of supplies. The new scheduled service is a separate development focused on expanding passenger connectivity.

The airline has positioned its return to Venezuela within a broader rebuilding of links between the two countries. Travellers considering the new route should verify current schedules, travel documentation requirements and any applicable official travel advice before departure, particularly as the January 2027 launch remains a future service.
