Aeva 4D LiDAR Certified as Sensys Gatso’s Secondary Speed Verification Solution for Public Roads Deployment in Australia
First-of-Its-Kind Regulatory Certification Advances Commercialization of Aeva's 4D LiDAR Within an Automated Traffic Enforcement System
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 20, 2026--Aeva® (Nasdaq: AEVA), a leader in next-generation sensing and perception systems, and Sensys Gatso, a global leader in traffic enforcement solutions, today announced that Aeva's 4D LiDAR technology has received regulatory certification for use as a secondary speed measurement device in Sensys Gatso's automated speed enforcement system for public roads deployment in Australia.
The certification significantly advances the companies' work toward the commercial deployment across Australia of dual-sensor speed enforcement systems that integrate Aeva's Atlas™ 4D LiDAR into Sensys Gatso's proven radar and high-resolution camera platforms. Atlas independently measures vehicle position and velocity in real time across multiple lanes, providing a secondary speed measurement to cross-validate readings from the primary radar sensor, ensuring maximum evidentiary strength for traffic safety authorities.
Unlike conventional LiDAR systems, Aeva's Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology directly measures velocity in addition to three-dimensional spatial positioning. A single sensor can monitor up to six traffic lanes simultaneously in both approaching and receding directions.
"This first-of-its-kind certification is an important step forward in commercializing Aeva's technology within an automated traffic enforcement system," said Jim Tan, Vice President of Business Development APAC at Aeva. "Atlas provides precise, instantaneous velocity measurements across multiple lanes and directions, offering traffic authorities a robust, independent verification source. In partnership with Sensys Gatso, we are demonstrating how 4D LiDAR provides an extra layer of independent verification, further reinforcing the high accuracy standards of modern traffic enforcement."
Australia is a leader in the adoption of multi-sensor verification to enhance the legal certainty of automated speed enforcement. By combining highly accurate radar velocity detection with Aeva 4D LiDAR verification and high-resolution optical image capture, Sensys Gatso provides complete, indisputable violation evidence for government clients.
"Achieving regulatory certification in Australia is a key milestone for our dual-sensor product portfolio," said Enzo Dri, Managing Director of Sensys Gatso Australia. "By integrating Aeva's 4D LiDAR as an independent secondary speed verification source with our established radar and camera systems, we offer traffic authorities an unmatched level of validation to our high integrity systems. This certification reinforces our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art road safety infrastructure."
