2026 International Journalists’ Conference Commemorating the FPCJ’s 50th Anniversary “The Rapidly Changing World and Journalism—The Global South and Japan: Understanding and Reporting on the Rebuilding of the International Order ”（Report)

Five leading journalists from the West and the Global South, along with three Japanese journalists, provided a “diagnosis” of the background and reasons why the international order built over 80 years since the end of Word War II was now unstable. Based on this diagnosis, the panelists then discussed a “prescription,” including international organizations such as the United Nations, cooperative frameworks such as the G7, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, middle powers including Japan, and what role the media can play.

By sharing a variety of regional perspectives, including from the Global South, the conference also examined how Japanese policies and society were thought of and reported on overseas, and considered the challenges facing and future of international information outreach from Japan.
